WHYNACHT, Cecil F. - Halifax, died March 8, 1998. He was born October 19, 1918, in Lunenburg and was raised in Eastern Points and Lunenburg. He was a member of West Nova Scotia Reserve Regiment when war broke out in September 1939. He spent from December 1939 until June 1946 overseas, serving in Sicily, Italy, Holland, Germany and the army of occupation. During this time he was awarded the MBE. After retiring from the Army with the rank of major in 1949, he entered the real estate field. In 1957, he earned his FRI and during his 30 years in the real estate industry, he served as president of the Halifax Dartmouth Real Estate Board and was involved in the establishment of the MLS listing service, as well as being very dedicated to furthering education and high standards in real estate and property appraisal. After retirement, he became very involved with the Laryngectomee Society of Nova Scotia as a volunteer visitor. He was a life member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 23, Lunenburg; West Nova Scotia Regiment Association; West Nova Scotia Regiment Memory Club; Victoria Lodge of Perfection, Unity Lodge 4. Surviving are his wife, Vivian (Sheppard) Whynacht; son, Frank; daughters, Leslie Walsh, Jean Blackie; eight grandchildren; a great-grandchild. Visitation 7-9 p.m. today in Snow's Funeral Home, 2666 Windsor St., Halifax. Funeral 2 p.m. Wednesday in All Saints Cathedral, Halifax. Immediate family flowers only. Donations to Canadian Cancer Society or Heart and Stroke Foundation of Nova Scotia.
