Registered to City of Kingston. GPS location is the island itself, not the location of the burial site.
Human remains were discovered in 1988, and tests show they date from c900. The remains were moved to a nearby, but more suitable location on the island with room for additional interments if needed. In 2001, the City of Kingston and the Mohawk Nation Council of Chiefs made an agreement "to restore and protect Belle Island as the site of a First Peoples campsite and burial ground."
