This cemetery is hard to get to because you have to walk in a cornfield for about 25 mins then cross a small creek, walk up a steep hill, then turn left and follow the bank for about 10 more mins, then you can see a fenced in area that has the remaining stones. This cemetery is located on the original property of Captain Kerry (Carey). Captain Kerry was leader of the local Militia during the time of the Rebellion of 1837-38, having settled in the area around 1830. In June of 1838, Captain Kerry was killed and was buried on his farm in what is now known as Carey Cemetery. Over the years, other members of his family, as well as neighbours were buried here.
Some persons named in this index may not be interred in this cemetery, they are designated as spouse or parent on appropriate stones and may not have their own birth and death recorded here (See our FAQ). Women, if maiden names are known, will appear under both their maiden and married names. |
This index represents ALL visible headstones still in existence at the time this cemetery was visited
