Church / Denomination: Bethel Church
Registered to Town of Ajax. The church was a clapboard building and its use was discontinued, probably around the time the Bible Christians rejoined with the Methodist church and the Methodists eventually joined the union to become the United Church of Canada. My father, great grandson of Joseph Ellicott, tells me the church just fell down from neglect. The land was owned by John Tolsher, who deeded it in 1862 to the Trustees of the Bible Christian Church for the purposes of a meeting house or chapel, and burying ground. The trustees at the time were Joseph Ellicott, Thomas Stevenson, William Brignall and others. John Tolsher was Joseph Ellicott's father-in-law.
